layoffs

Multiple companies have filed WARNs in Oregon in the last few weeks. On February 21, 2024, UPS submitted a WARN saying it would lay off hundreds of workers in Oregon. According to the WARN, all UPS employees assigned to the Portland Day Sort at 6707 North Basin in Portland will be separated from their employment due to volume loss in the company’s network.

UPS said in the WARN that the action is expected to be permanent due to the lack of available work at this location moving forward. The sort will be closed for operation on April 19, 2024. UPS remains at the location, but there are no plans to retain employees assigned to the day sort beyond April 19. In total, UPS will be laying off 272 part-time hourly employees, 11 full-time hourly workers, 40 part-time management employees, and 8 full-time management employees.

The decision will impact union and non-union employees. Wieden + Kennedy Inc. submitted a WARN saying it would lay off workers at 224 Northwest 13th Avenue in Portland on or around March 1, 2024. In total, the company will eliminate 87 jobs. The permanent reduction in force was expected to occur on or around March 1. Among the workers being laid off include content producers, brand managers, copywriters, and more.

Finally, Adventist Health of Tillamook said in a WARN it would begin eliminating jobs from Adventist Health clinics. The employment separations are expected to begin on or around May 5, 2024. Approximately 22 workers are expected to be laid off with Adventist Health.
