I recently experienced a layoff from my first nursing job at a specialized office within a large medical complex. I was let go after making a joke in a personal group chat with a few co-workers. The humor didn't sit well with some of the older staff, which ultimately led to my termination. It's frustrating because I had received a lot of praise from doctors and patients during my time there, and I consistently worked overtime and met all my manager's expectations. Now, as I navigate the job search, I'm struggling with how to explain my termination to potential employers. I've tried saying that my previous job and I amicably decided to part ways, but some interviewers press for more details, which makes me uncomfortable. I have glowing references and recommendation letters from two doctors at that job, but it feels like they might not hold much weight after my termination. I'm unsure if I should continue mentioning that I was fired or if I should just say it was a layoff. I’m also considering whether to include that position on my resume at all. It's been a tough learning experience, and I’m trying to find the right way to communicate my past while still showcasing my skills and dedication.
