I was laid off from my job at a small company, which I'll refer to as Company X, just five days after starting. On my first day, I had informed the CEO about my mental health condition and the monthly injections I need to take. He seemed understanding at the time, saying it would have been nice to know beforehand but assured me that it wouldn’t affect my job. My manager, Will, also reassured me that the company was accommodating and that my probation wouldn’t be impacted by my medical needs. However, today I arrived at 7:30 am, and at 9 am, I was called into a meeting with Will and the CEO. They told me I was 'not the right fit' because they needed someone available from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm every day. Despite my willingness to manage my schedule, they couldn’t accommodate my need to come in late once a month for my treatment. I felt blindsided and disappointed, especially since I had communicated openly about my situation. Now, I'm left to navigate the aftermath of this unexpected layoff.
