Company A

I recently had an experience with Company A that left me feeling uneasy about their hiring practices. I’m currently employed full-time and made it clear during my first online interview that I couldn’t attend in-person interviews during working hours, as I wanted to keep my job search discreet. They seemed to understand my situation. However, I received a call today at 6 PM from them saying that the technical team liked my profile and wanted to schedule an in-person interview for tomorrow between 8 AM and 5 PM, which is exactly when I told them I couldn’t make it. To complicate matters, I work in a different city and finish at 5 PM, meaning I wouldn’t be able to reach their office before it closes. During the initial phone screening, the recruiter also asked a series of personal questions about my current salary, benefits, and bonuses, which felt intrusive when combined with their insistence on an in-person interview. In contrast, I’m also interviewing with another company that has been much more professional and respectful of my availability, focusing on my skills rather than my current compensation. I’m left wondering if I’m overthinking this or if it’s reasonable to see these as red flags. Is it normal for companies to be so inflexible, especially knowing that candidates are currently employed?
