I recently found myself in a tricky situation after accepting a job offer from a new employer. About 20 days later, my current company's HR reached out with a counter offer, asking if I'd consider staying if they could match or exceed the new offer. I told them I needed a day to think it over. I'm really torn because while I want to leave my current job due to a lack of learning opportunities, I also feel that the new employer's offer was a bit low for my experience. The new company is a startup and seems promising, but I can't shake the feeling that I deserve better compensation. Now I'm contemplating whether I should bring this up with my new employer. I don't want to lie to my current HR about my intentions, but I also want to ensure I'm compensated fairly. Is it appropriate to mention the counter offer to my new employer, or would that just create unnecessary tension? I’ve received some advice suggesting that trying to leverage a counter offer after accepting a new position could backfire. It seems like my best bet might be to stick with my current job for now and see if the raise makes a difference. If not, I can always start looking again later.
