I’m 47 years old and have over 15 years of experience in BPO and HR operations, but I’ve been out of work for nearly 10 months now, and I’m feeling overwhelmed. I never imagined I would be in this position, but after being made redundant last December, what initially felt like a relief has turned into a struggle. I live with a disability that causes me physical pain, and I also support my elderly parents, which adds to the pressure. My savings are almost depleted, and I’m drowning in debt. I’ve been trying to make ends meet with side gigs, but the stress is taking a toll on my health. I desperately need a stable job with health insurance for myself and my parents. I’m stuck in what I call the Application Trap. When I apply for lower-level positions, I get told I’m overqualified, and when I target roles that match my experience, I barely get any interviews or face constant rejections. I feel like I’m competing against younger candidates who are more familiar with the latest technology, which makes me feel outdated and anxious about applying. The burnout and isolation are really weighing on me. Supporting my parents while dealing with chronic pain and the emotional toll of job rejections is exhausting. I’m seeking advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation, especially those who are mature applicants or living with disabilities in the BPO or corporate sectors. Are there inclusive companies or remote roles that value extensive operational experience over fast-paced line management? How can I reframe my 15+ years of experience on my resume to avoid being flagged as overqualified for individual contributor roles? Any leads, advice, or just words of encouragement would mean the world to me right now. Thank you for listening.
