I just got fired from my job after eight years, and it's the first time I've ever experienced this. I'm feeling scared and overwhelmed, especially with the current state of the economy. I've struggled with mental health issues for a long time, including major depression, generalized anxiety, and a late diagnosis of ADHD. I suspect I might be autistic, but I haven't had the chance to get tested as an adult. My mental health has really deteriorated over the past few years, and despite once being a top performer at my job, I found myself burnt out and unable to recover. Recently, I was asked to be a bridesmaid at a childhood friend's wedding, which I felt I couldn't miss. Unfortunately, my anxiety was so high leading up to it that I ended up emptying my prescription for propranolol, which I take for heart palpitations. While I was away, my manager noticed I was behind on some tasks and decided to let me go. I can't help but feel that if I hadn't gone to that wedding, I might still have my job. I used to be the go-to person in my region for insurance and authorization issues, but now I've been fired for underperformance after a year filled with write-ups. I'm really struggling to cope with this loss and feeling worthless. It's hard to believe that after all my experience, I still feel as expendable as a new hire. I’m trying to update my resume and apply for new jobs, but my confidence is at an all-time low. I’m not sure what I’m looking for—maybe some comfort or advice to help me see that I'm not worthless.
