I recently had a recruiter suggest that I could fake some work experience to cover a gap in my employment history. He assured me that they would handle any background checks, which made me wonder how common this practice is. I'm feeling torn about whether to take this offer since I know that honesty is important in job searching. I want to know if others have faced similar situations and what the potential consequences might be if I go through with it or if I choose to stay truthful. Some comments I received suggested that as long as it's not for a government job, it might be okay, but I'm still uncomfortable with the idea of lying on my resume.
