Revising my cover letter for a mental health facility position to enhance impact

I recently applied for a position in a mental health facility and wrote a cover letter that I now realize might not be hitting the mark. I used a template from Indeed, but I’m getting feedback that it might be too lengthy and not focused enough on what I can offer the employer. In my cover letter, I introduced myself by mentioning my recent graduation with a bachelor's degree in psychology and expressed my excitement for the position. I shared my respect for the company’s mission to treat clients with dignity, but I think I spent too much time on my educational background and not enough on my relevant skills or experiences. I highlighted my coursework in areas like abnormal psychology and addiction, but I was advised that this might come off as a list rather than showcasing my capabilities. I also mentioned my experience as a kennel assistant, where I learned to manage multiple tasks efficiently, but I didn’t connect that experience directly to the job I’m applying for. The feedback I received suggested that I should start with the specific position I’m applying for and immediately state what I can bring to the table. I need to focus on how my hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment relates to the skills needed in a mental health setting. I want to ensure that I’m clearly communicating my ability to handle stressful situations and provide quality care, rather than just listing my academic achievements. I’m planning to revise my cover letter to make it more concise and impactful, focusing on how my experiences align with the job requirements. I hope to make a stronger impression on the hiring manager.
