Applied for a promising job but faced unexpected rejection after initial progress

I recently found myself in a tough spot, applying for numerous jobs to support my family during a difficult time. I had even given up on my dream of studying abroad, which was fully funded, because my presence at home is crucial. I felt an immense pressure to secure a job within the next month, so I was applying like crazy. One position caught my eye; it aligned perfectly with my skills, and the company had a stellar reputation. The pay was decent, and landing a role there would be a significant boost for my career. To my delight, I received an email saying my application had moved to the next stage, which felt like a huge accomplishment given how selective they are. I was genuinely excited and felt a glimmer of hope. However, late one night, I received another email stating they were no longer hiring for the position due to an 'unexpected change.' When I checked the application portal, it indicated that they had 'moved forward with other candidates.' This left me confused and disheartened. Did they find someone better, or did they just decide not to hire anyone at all? I know I sound a bit irrational, but the stress of my family situation is weighing heavily on me. It feels like everyone around me has moved on, and I’m left to deal with this alone. I wanted to vent and seek some clarity on whether companies genuinely cancel positions or if they just use generic responses when they select another candidate. Any insights would be appreciated.
