I had a great first meeting with a potential employer at my dream workplace last month, and I was really excited about the opportunity. The hiring manager mentioned that the job posting would open in December and encouraged me to attend their events, emphasizing that I should email her first before doing so. I followed her advice and reached out once, then attended an event where she was quite busy. I felt our greeting was a bit awkward compared to our initial meeting, but I don't think I did anything offensive. Since then, I've experienced total radio silence. I emailed her twice about attending another event, but I haven't received any replies. I also sent her a LinkedIn connection request yesterday, but she hasn't accepted it, even though she's active on the platform. I’m feeling really anxious and questioning what I might have done wrong. Interestingly, this opportunity came about because I initially contacted a senior person who directed me to her. I’m considering reaching out to him again, but I'm unsure if that would be appropriate since he hasn't accepted my LinkedIn request either. I’m just confused and worried that something went wrong during my interactions, especially since I was so enthusiastic about this job. I keep going in circles in my mind, wondering if it was because I showed up late to the event or if the last greeting was too awkward. I just wish I had clearer communication from them, whether the job is still open or if they found someone else. I'm feeling panicky and would appreciate any advice on how to handle this situation.

I had a meeting this morning for a potential job opportunity at a university, and I made a decision that’s been weighing heavily on me. After months of job hunting and countless rejections, I finally got a chance to meet with a manager thanks to a senior person who liked my CV. However, I arrived late and flustered due to security delays. During the meeting, the manager asked if I was enrolled in a master’s program, stating they prefer candidates who can commit for two to three years. I panicked and said no, even though I am actually starting part-time evening classes soon. I feel sick about lying. I know it was a split-second decision driven by fear of disqualification, but now I’m left with this overwhelming guilt. There’s no job offer yet, as the opening might not come until December, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’d be starting off on a dishonest note. I can’t imagine going back to correct my answer; the embarrassment feels unbearable. Has anyone else faced a similar situation? How did you handle it? Did it ever come out?
