I recently accepted a two-month contract with a small company for an entry-level role. As part of the background check process, the company requested my W2s to confirm my previous employment, which I provided without hesitation, even though I thought it was a bit excessive for such a short contract. They initially said that was sufficient, but then an HR representative they contacted mistakenly indicated that I had worked there longer than I actually did. This was just because my name was still in their system from a previous stint. Now, the background check company is asking for my IRS transcripts and paystubs to prove my employment duration. This has been frustrating because they have assured me multiple times that everything should be fine, yet I've had over six start dates canceled. I'm starting to feel uneasy about providing more personal information, especially since I've already proven everything I claimed. Is this level of scrutiny normal for a short contract, or am I justified in feeling overwhelmed by their demands?
