  1. 1

I've been job searching for about two months now, and it's been quite a journey. One of the most draining experiences has been the surprise elements of the hiring process. Initially, I would go into interviews without a clear idea of how many stages were involved. For example, during my first call, I was told, "There will probably be one more interview." Then, in the second interview, I learned I would meet the director, followed by a panel interview, and finally, a take-home assignment. It felt like the process kept multiplying unexpectedly. To combat this, I've started asking recruiters upfront about the entire interview process before I agree to the first call. I inquire about how many stages are planned, who I will be meeting with, and whether there are any assessments or take-home tasks involved. I'm not demanding guarantees that nothing will change, but I want to know if I'm entering a simple two-call process or potentially investing a lot of time into something more extensive. I've been pleasantly surprised that most recruiters respond quite openly to these questions. This approach has also helped me prioritize my energy when juggling interviews with multiple companies. I'm curious if others feel comfortable asking for the full interview process upfront, or if they worry it might make them seem difficult before even starting.
