I completed my final interview for a position on July 29th and didn’t hear back after the two-week waiting period. After reaching out to the hiring manager, I learned that the position had been filled while he was on holiday. He mentioned that I did an excellent interview and would have been his top choice, encouraging me to apply again next year. I felt disheartened, especially since I’m familiar with him and he had previously told me he was the sole decision-maker. Later that same day, I received an email from the recruiter stating that the recruitment process was still ongoing and they would provide an update soon. I'm trying not to overthink it, but it feels confusing given the mixed messages.
