I recently started a new job with a state government agency after leaving a previous position due to documented harassment four years ago. I had interviewed three times and was thrilled to receive an offer. However, just two weeks into my new role, I was called into a meeting with HR. They informed me that I had been "incorrectly hired" because I am on the ineligible for re-hire list due to not providing a full two weeks' notice when I left my previous toxic job. They explained that there was a miscommunication between in-house HR and the state HR higher-ups, which led to this situation. I am now on paid leave while they make a decision about my employment status. I left the office today with my personal belongings, feeling incredibly embarrassed and frustrated by the whole ordeal.
