I had a frustrating experience today while interviewing for a position at a local restaurant where my friend works. She had referred me, and I was told to come in for an interview the next day. When I arrived, it quickly became clear that nobody at the restaurant was aware of my scheduled interview. The manager seemed confused and couldn't recall any details about my visit. He asked for my name and then proceeded to conduct what he called an 'interview,' but it felt more like a screening. He was reading off a script and seemed unprepared, which made me uncomfortable. I’ve never encountered an interview where the person interviewing me didn’t even know who I was. After the awkward exchange, the manager casually mentioned that this wasn’t really an interview but just a screening, and he asked for my name again before I left. It left me feeling pretty disheartened about the whole process. I texted my friend afterward to share my experience, and she was equally upset since the manager had previously told her it would be an easy hire. I’m not feeling optimistic about this opportunity.
