I'm currently working as a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) for a university-affiliated research program, and I recently graduated with a BSc. This role has been a fantastic learning experience, but I've been feeling extremely underpaid and overworked. I started part-time while finishing my classes, but I quickly found myself doing a full-time workload with a lot of unpaid hours. I accepted this because I was promised a transition to a full-time position and growth opportunities, but that hasn't materialized. I've been told I might be switched to full-time by the end of summer, but there's uncertainty due to budgeting issues. To make matters worse, the work environment has turned toxic. I have a colleague who is frequently disrespectful and has been harassing me for the past eight months. I've learned that previous coordinators left because of her behavior, and it seems to be tolerated due to her seniority. Recently, I received a job offer from a startup in the medical supplies sector, which offers a salary more than double what I'm currently making. I know the owner and believe the work environment would be much healthier. However, I'm hesitant because this role is more business-focused and not directly related to clinical research. I'm worried that if I leave research now, it might be difficult to return to that field later if I decide it's where I want to go with my career. I'm torn between taking the better-paying, more stable job or staying in my current position to gain more research experience.
