  1. 1

About six months ago, I made a lateral move from a production role to maintenance at my current company due to a forced schedule change that would have required me to work weekends or nights. Since then, the situation has become quite concerning. They've shut down half of our building, and many colleagues from my previous department have been let go or transferred. The company is stripping this location for older parts, with promises of newer models coming, but the timelines they provide are inconsistent and often missed. Now, my workplace feels empty, and my job has turned into an 'on call' situation for eight hours where I find myself sitting in a back room, reading or playing video games, as long as I complete my required work. My supervisor reassures our small team that we're safe, but I can't shake the feeling that something is off. The company has a history of layoffs and has recently been investing in other locations while moving jobs away from ours. They send out emails about management restructuring, which adds to my unease. I have a decent savings cushion, and while I'm comfortable in this low-effort role, I'm seriously considering starting to apply for other jobs again, especially given the current job market. The only thing keeping me here is the potential for the new models to arrive, which could significantly increase my workload. The latest delivery date is set for October, so I might just wait and see what happens.
