I started a job as a medical biller almost two months ago, and I'm really struggling. I had no prior experience in medical billing, and while I was honest about that during the interview, I was still surprised when they offered me the position. My role involves billing for Medicaid, and although there's a team I work with, everyone seems too busy to provide much help. When I do ask questions, I often get quick, basic answers before they rush back to their work, leaving me confused about what to do next. My team lead trained me for just 2-3 days, and since then, I've been mostly on my own. I try to ask her questions when I'm stuck, but she often seems annoyed, which makes me hesitant to reach out. I know they are busy, but I can’t shake the feeling that they don’t care about my progress or think I'm doing a good job. With my anxiety, I worry that I'm interpreting their behavior too negatively, but I genuinely feel overwhelmed. Medical billing is much more complicated than I anticipated, with numerous rules, codes, and Medicaid requirements to keep track of. I'm scared of making mistakes, and it's starting to feel like I won't succeed in this role. I can't afford to quit since I need the job, and finding something else has been tough. I'm reaching out to anyone with experience in medical billing, especially Medicaid billing: is this struggle typical for someone just starting out? How long did it take you to feel competent in your role, and what strategies did you use to improve when support was lacking? I could really use some guidance right now.
