I recently drafted a cover letter for a position at the local library system, which I found on their employment webpage. It's been years since I've written one, and I'm feeling a bit anxious about its quality. In the letter, I expressed my interest in two open positions and highlighted my extensive customer service experience, primarily in retail. I emphasized my communication skills, especially in handling dissatisfied customers and understanding their needs. Currently, I work as a page, and my latest employee evaluation confirmed that I meet all the standards for my role, which includes tasks like shelf-reading and assisting patrons. I also mentioned that I am pursuing a virtual Master's in Library Sciences and Information, which I believe enhances my current work and will benefit the library. I justified my decision to start the program now, explaining that I have a strong support system and that this new position would actually double my hours, which I can manage during my hardest academic quarter. However, I’m concerned that starting my degree so early might give the impression that I plan to leave the position soon, which is not the case. I also struggle with my writing style; it feels unnatural and not quite professional. I want to keep the letter concise, but I’m worried that adding more content might push it over a page. I’m looking for feedback to improve it.
