I recently completed an extensive job search, submitting 412 applications over the past six months. Throughout this time, I managed to secure 9 interviews and ultimately received 1 job offer. I started tracking my applications in a spreadsheet out of frustration after the second month, documenting each application, where I found it, the date I submitted it, and whether I received any responses. Last night, I transformed my data into charts to visualize the results. I discovered a significant difference in response rates based on where I applied; referrals yielded a 34% response rate, while applications through Indeed only had a mere 4%. Most of my applications were submitted via Indeed, which clearly wasn't the most effective strategy. I also experimented with three different versions of my resume, but surprisingly, the response rates remained almost identical across all versions. I compiled all my findings into a gamma deck, which I uploaded, and it generated the charts in about ten minutes. Interestingly, the count of ghosted applications is still fluctuating, as I received replies from two recruiters I had contacted back in April just last week. I'm open to sharing my spreadsheet and charts if anyone is interested or has questions about the data.
