I graduated with a degree in political science two years ago, but I didn't have the opportunity to do internships during my time at university. I was working full-time and caring for my dad, which left me with no time to gain relevant experience. Now that I'm trying to enter the job market, I'm finding it really challenging. Most entry-level positions in my field require some prior experience or an internship, and I'm feeling lost on how to break in without that background. I'm determined to start from the bottom, but I need some guidance on how to navigate this situation.

I've been unemployed for a few months now and recently decided to dive back into job hunting using apps like Indeed and ZipRecruiter. Honestly, I'm shocked at how ineffective they seem to be. It feels like a majority of the listings are either scams or ghost jobs. Many postings advertise a high salary but then turn out to be gig work, which is frustrating. On top of that, the algorithms seem to suggest positions that are completely unrelated to my experience, and I find myself labeled as a 'top candidate' for jobs I’m not even qualified for. Am I missing something, or are these platforms just not what they used to be?

I graduated from university about two years ago and took a year off to travel, leaving my call center job behind. I started looking for new opportunities in March of this year, hoping to find something similar to my previous role. However, I'm shocked to see that almost every job posting for similar positions is offering $2-3 less per hour than what I was making when I started at the call center over seven years ago. It's disheartening to think that I might have to accept a lower wage now, especially as a recent graduate. I really want to get back to work, but I can't help but feel like I'm moving backwards in my career. Is the job market really this tough? It feels frustrating to consider taking a job that pays less than what I earned right out of high school.

Today, I received a call to set up an interview for a position that I'm feeling a bit uncertain about. I decided to do some research on the company and checked their reviews on Indeed. To my surprise, I found only two reviews: one was a glowing 5-star review praising the company, which felt a bit suspicious, and the other was a harsh 1-star review criticizing the company for its high turnover rate and poor work environment. Curious, I looked at their Google reviews and found a similar pattern. Out of about 50 reviews, there were numerous short 5-star comments that felt generic and insincere, alongside detailed 1-star reviews that included complaints and even pictures. This inconsistency has made me hesitant about moving forward with the interview. I'm wondering how much weight others place on these reviews when job hunting. I'm seriously considering canceling the interview based on what I've seen.
