I recently received a job offer after a series of interviews, and I’m feeling conflicted about it. I've been unhappy at my current job for a while and decided to start looking for new opportunities. After revising my resume, I finally started getting some responses, but the job market has been tough. I had a promising interview with a company where I met with the manager and some owners. They seemed to like me, but during the compensation discussion, I mentioned my expected pay, which was higher than what they offered. Today, I received the offer, but it was $3/hour less than my minimum expectation. I tried to negotiate, but they were firm on the offer, stating that after three months, they would review my performance for a potential raise of $2-$3/hour. They also mentioned health insurance reimbursement up to $300/month, which is significantly less than my current free healthcare. The commute would be 40 minutes each way, which adds up to over an hour daily, and my boyfriend advised against accepting the offer. He pointed out that the increased commuting costs and inferior health benefits make it not worth it. He believes I deserve better and has encouraged me to pursue another company we’ve discussed. I’m torn between wanting to make a move and being cautious about making the wrong choice. I don’t want to miss out on a potential opportunity, but I also don’t want to feel trapped in a position that doesn’t meet my needs.
