I was laid off this week from my job in Massachusetts and received a severance package. The severance is only a few weeks' pay, and I'm trying to figure out if I can still apply for unemployment benefits. The severance agreement includes a release of claims, which has me worried that it might prevent me from collecting unemployment. However, I noticed that the agreement states it doesn't bar a claim for unemployment compensation benefits. I'm hoping to get some clarity on whether I can apply for unemployment while receiving this severance. Any insights from those who are familiar with these types of agreements would be greatly appreciated!
