  1. 1

I've been working in project management for nearly a decade, and lately, I've been feeling really stuck. The company I’m with has been great in some ways, but promotions feel almost pointless when the raises are tied to pay bands rather than reflecting the actual market or the complexity of my work. If I’m lucky, I might see a 1% annual raise. I’ve been contemplating leaving for the past couple of years, but my current role feels relatively secure, especially since my location has seen significant investments. However, there are rumors circulating about potential layoffs of over 10% in Q1 of next year, and longer-term plans suggest a possible 40% headcount reduction. This uncertainty has me second-guessing everything. I feel trapped between staying in a seemingly safe position and the risk of looking for something new. It’s hard to predict what the job market will look like in 10-20 years, especially with AI advancing so rapidly. I’ve been wondering what others are doing in this job market. Should I play it safe and stay put, or take the plunge and explore new opportunities? It feels like no matter what I choose, there’s a looming threat of layoffs that could affect everyone eventually.
