I’m a 52-year-old woman navigating the job market after a divorce, with my kids now out of the house. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology back in 2016, but I know I need a master’s degree to really advance in my field. I tried pursuing a master’s in teaching and learning but had to quit halfway through due to the challenges of raising a child with a disability. Now, I’m ready to find a job but have been struggling. I’ve sent out 71 resumes and applications on Indeed, but the feedback hasn’t led to positions that feel right for me. I’m considering looking into jobs within the school system, but I’m also contemplating truck driving as a way to pay off my student debt and save for further education. I’m torn between starting a career in education or working for a few years in a different field to get my finances in order. If I could pursue my master’s for free, I’d jump at the chance. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed and unsure of my next steps.
