I'm currently facing a challenging situation at my job as a non-certified administrator in a K12 education setting in a rural district. I've been working here for over 5 years and am just two years away from being vested in the pension system. However, I've been dealing with a toxic environment, particularly from an assistant superintendent who has been bullying me and showing clear favoritism towards male colleagues. This behavior is not just a personal issue; it's a well-known problem in our district, which has a 'good ol' boy' culture that allows such treatment to go unchecked. Today was particularly bad; he screamed at me and berated me in front of several male colleagues, which made the situation even more humiliating. I tend to be straightforward and blunt, but this level of aggression is beyond what anyone should tolerate in a workplace. I'm at a crossroads. On one hand, I want to stay for the pension and the stability it offers for my future retirement. On the other hand, I feel that life is too short to endure this kind of toxicity. I've been looking for other jobs in the education sector but haven't had any luck, and positions like mine are rare in my state. I’m considering whether to stay and cope, risk being fired to collect unemployment, or even quiet quitting while I search for something else. It's a tough decision, and I could really use some advice on how to navigate this situation.
