I recently faced a tough situation after being laid off from my job in Texas due to company closure. As an at-will employee, I was offered a separation agreement that included two weeks of severance pay. I signed the agreement, expecting to receive my first payment on the specified date. However, that payment never arrived. After reaching out to my former employer, I was informed that the company has no funds available to pay the severance. Now, I'm considering whether I should file a wage claim with the Texas Workforce Commission to recover my owed severance pay.
