I recently went through a frustrating experience while interviewing for a position at a prestigious university in Australia. After making it to the third interview, where I faced a panel of seven members out of 500 applicants, I was told by the panel chair that I would receive an update by the end of the week. The final interview took place on a Monday, and I eagerly awaited news. However, by the following Wednesday, I hadn't heard anything. In an attempt to follow up, I found the panel chair on LinkedIn and sent a message expressing my appreciation for the interview process and inquiring about the status of my application. To my surprise, I received a response stating that reaching out on LinkedIn was considered unprofessional. The chair informed me that they had already made their recommendation to the university the previous Thursday and that the process was now closed, advising me that no further contact was necessary. I was taken aback by this response, especially after investing so much time and effort into the interviews.
