I was laid off on June 30 after about 5.5 years with my company due to an organizational change. I received a severance package that includes six months of pay along with COBRA coverage. From what I've gathered, this seems like a solid deal. Now, I'm at a crossroads about whether I should hire an attorney to review my separation agreement. I've seen estimates of around $400 to $700 for a one-hour review, but I don't have any major concerns with the agreement itself. I'm leaning towards just signing it, but I also worry about potentially missing out on negotiating for more or overlooking something important. I'm looking for advice, especially from anyone who's been in a similar situation.

I got laid off yesterday due to an organizational change at my company. It hit me hard, and I'm still in shock. I received a severance package that includes six months of pay along with COBRA health insurance, but I'm unsure if that's a good deal or if I should negotiate for something better. Right now, I feel paralyzed and unproductive, struggling to even think about job hunting. I've been advised to take some time to process what happened and focus on self-care before diving into the job search. I plan to apply for unemployment benefits and connect with friends and family to help me get through this tough time. I'm hoping that after I give myself some space to breathe, I'll be able to approach my job search with a clearer mind.
