I had an interview this morning for a dog-related position, and honestly, it felt like the interviewer thought I wasted his time. He started off by explaining the job expectations, hours, and how it was part of a franchise. He even shared personal stories about his family and his plans to sign on more clients, which could potentially increase my hours. At first, I thought it was going well, but as he talked about wanting to retire and keep the business as a source of income, my red flags went up. He kept mentioning that I could become a supervisor and would have to keep a company car at my house, conduct interviews, and all that. I’ve been in similar situations before where the boss shares grand plans, and they usually don’t pan out. When it was my turn to ask questions, I raised several concerns, including one about having enough time during my 30-minute break to run home and let my dog out. His demeanor changed immediately, and he seemed annoyed. Given that this was a dog-related job, I found it particularly concerning that he reacted negatively to my concern. He even questioned why I couldn’t have someone come to my house to walk my dog, and I explained that I didn’t have anyone I trusted for that. At that point, I knew the interview was a failure. He ended up turning me down and implied that I should have brought up my concern earlier. Isn’t the purpose of an interview to discuss the job in detail? It felt like he was frustrated because I seemed like a strong candidate until I voiced my concern. I’m relieved it didn’t work out; I think I dodged a bullet here.
