I'm currently at a medium-sized company as an embedded software engineer, and I've just received an offer from a startup that I'm seriously considering. I applied for the position on a whim after seeing it on LinkedIn, mainly because it's much closer to home—only a 15-20 minute drive compared to the hour I currently spend commuting. I was surprised to make it through the interview process and actually receive an offer, especially since I was in the middle of interviewing for other roles at the time and had just been promoted at my current job. While my current role offers flexibility and stability, it can be a bit dull. The startup position comes with a 10% pay increase, which is enticing, but I'm worried about the potential instability and stress that often comes with startup environments. This would also be my third job in three years since graduating from college, which has me concerned about the perception of being a job hopper—especially since I was laid off from my first job just six months in due to offshoring. I'm feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety about this potential change and would love to hear from others about their experiences working at startups, what I should consider, and any advice on making this decision.
