Today, I learned that a buddy of mine was laid off from his position as a department supervisor in the receiving department at Home Depot Canada. He had been with the company for over 5 years, and they informed him that they were diminishing his position and had no alternative roles available for him. It seems strange to me that they would eliminate a role so crucial to the store's operations, especially since receiving is essential for keeping the store running smoothly. He did receive severance pay and his time shares are coming soon, which is a small comfort, but it still feels unfair to be let go after so many years of service.
