I'm currently in a bit of a precarious situation. I’m set to start a new role in supply chain and procurement at a company on November 10th, but they've just announced plans to cut up to 1,500 jobs globally. This decision seems to stem from underutilization due to delayed projects and customer call-offs, as well as a broader restructuring initiative. Since I haven't officially joined yet, I'm understandably anxious about what this means for my future position. The role I was hired for is meant to establish and manage the procurement function at a new site, and I've learned that positions like mine are funded directly by the client, which might offer some protection against the cuts. I've reached out to my future hiring manager to get more clarity on the situation, but I’m also looking for insights from anyone who has faced a similar scenario. How are new roles that are client-funded typically handled during restructuring like this?
