Today, I accepted a new role at my previous company after just four months in my current position as a Solutions Architect at a large, well-known firm. The transition from a fast-growing startup where I had significant ownership in data engineering to a more sales-oriented role has been challenging. I've realized that sales isn't a good fit for me, and I miss being on the customer side, implementing solutions rather than selling them. My manager and team have been fantastic, which makes this decision even harder. I feel guilty about leaving, especially since my manager has been discussing our goals for the upcoming quarter and next year. I want to approach this conversation with honesty about my reasons for leaving, but I also want to ensure it doesn't come across as abandoning the team. I'm concerned about how to communicate this without burning bridges, given that I'm so early into my role. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? How did you handle the conversation with your manager, and what steps did you take to leave on good terms?
