I’ve been navigating a tricky situation since I was laid off from my role in 2025. After enduring months of grueling 50-60 hour workweeks without a break, I decided to resign due to my frustrations. My boss wanted to discuss my concerns, so I stayed on for an additional three months. Unfortunately, the company lost a major client during that time, and I, along with seven colleagues including the co-president, was let go. While everyone else was officially laid off, my dismissal was categorized as an acceptance of resignation. Now, I'm facing a dilemma on how to present this during job interviews. I’m worried that saying I resigned might make me appear uncommitted or a flight risk, but if I claim I was laid off, my former employer could dispute that since they have documentation of my resignation. I want to be honest without going into a lengthy backstory that might turn off hiring managers. I’m seeking advice on how to frame this situation effectively.
