I recently had my position eliminated after almost 5 years of remote work, and I'm now actively job searching. The market is tough, but I was fortunate to secure an interview for a hybrid role next week. The job description indicates that it involves 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. While this is an improvement over a fully in-office role, I still face a 45-minute commute each way, which adds up to a significant amount of time. I'm considering asking during the interview if there's any flexibility for a fully remote option, but I'm unsure if it's appropriate to bring it up at this stage. I don't want to jeopardize my chances, especially since I'm likely competing with many other candidates. My plan is to take this position if offered, while I continue to apply for fully remote opportunities.

I was laid off a week and a half ago and have been actively searching for remote job opportunities since then. As the sole income provider for my family, the pressure is on, but as an introvert, I really thrive in environments where communication is mostly written. I enjoyed my previous role in ecommerce because it allowed me to avoid a lot of verbal interactions, with only occasional team meetings. Recently, I applied for a job that I found through an email from Indeed, and to my surprise, I was called the next day for an interview. I have to admit, I only skimmed the job description and saw 'remote,' not realizing that it involved driving to customers' homes for face-to-face sales. Now I'm feeling a bit foolish for not considering the implications of that. The role is commission-based with a daily draw, and I can't shake the feeling that I would be miserable in this position. I worry that if I take this job, I might get stuck and lose the momentum I've built in my job search. I've never worked in a commission-based role before, and I’m concerned that I would end up earning less than my last job while also racking up gas expenses and putting wear and tear on my nearly 20-year-old car. I'm trying to refocus my applications, but it's tough to shake off this unexpected opportunity.

I recently applied for a job and was surprised to be asked to do a "test drive" via webcam right after submitting my application. I wasn't familiar with this process and found it a bit unusual, as I've never had to do anything on camera as part of a job application before. I'm wondering if this is a common practice now, especially with the rise of AI in hiring, or if it might be a red flag for the company. I'm trying to navigate this new territory, so any insights would be appreciated!

I was laid off suddenly without any warning, and it has left me feeling incredibly unsettled about my future job security. I knew the economy was tough and that layoffs were a possibility, but I always hoped I would get some kind of heads up before it happened. My boss and team consistently praised my work, so the layoff felt particularly jarring and was clearly not a reflection of my performance. Now, I can't shake the feeling that any future job could end in the same way—being called into a meeting one day and finding out I'm unemployed within minutes. The uncertainty is overwhelming, and I’m struggling to come to terms with it.

I was let go from my position today, and I'm feeling a bit lost about where to start my job search. I had been with the company for four years, working remotely in the firearms e-commerce industry. My journey started in a tough spot when I was initially fired from a previous job due to performance issues, right when I had a young child at home. Thankfully, I found a new role shortly after that, which allowed me to be with my family more. However, with a new CEO and some financial tightening this spring, I received a call this morning from my boss and HR, and I knew what was coming. My position was eliminated as part of a financial decision, while my coworker was brought back into the office. I’m grateful for the time I spent at home with my child, especially since we plan on homeschooling. I’ve accepted that I might need to work in an office now, which is a change since we only have one car. Now, I’m trying to figure out where to look for new opportunities. My last job came about unexpectedly, and now I feel overwhelmed. I’ve checked Indeed, but it seems filled with spam, and while my state job board has some decent listings, I’m not sure where to start. Any suggestions on job boards that are actually legit?
