I recently applied for a position and went through the interview process. To my surprise, the company asked me to complete a background check and drug screening on the same day as the interview. The following day, I received paperwork for direct deposit forms. I'm feeling a bit uneasy because I haven't received an official offer letter yet. Is it common for companies to request onboarding paperwork before sending an offer letter? I'm starting to wonder if this is a legitimate opportunity or if I should be cautious.

I recently interviewed for an HR position after spending nearly two years in the field, following several years in fast food management. The interview process was quite interesting and gave me some hope about my candidacy. They scheduled a background check and drug screening before the interview, which I found unusual but also a positive sign that they were serious about moving forward quickly. During the interview, the conversation felt relatively informal, and I think I passed the vibe check well. We didn't just discuss the position; instead, we focused on what I would be doing and the potential for learning and advancement within the company, which made me feel valued as a candidate. The interview lasted about an hour, even though it was initially planned for just 45 minutes, which I took as a good sign. The interviewer mentioned that I would hear back by the end of this week, so I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about my chances.
