I recently received an opportunity for a part-time developer role with a company that claims to work with German-speaking clients. I currently live abroad and outside of Europe, so I was intrigued but cautious. After doing some research, I found a few red flags that have me questioning the legitimacy of this opportunity. Firstly, the company claims to have between 201-500 employees on LinkedIn and XING, but public records indicate they have fewer than 10. This discrepancy is concerning. Additionally, I noticed that many employees listed on LinkedIn have only recently joined the company, suggesting a lack of stability or possibly a high turnover rate. The person who reached out to me doesn't seem to have any formal connection to the company, which raises further doubts. They mentioned finding my profile through a 'talent pool,' but I have no memory of applying or interacting with them before. When I asked for clarification, they said they got my contact information from a freelance platform where I'm listed. Overall, their online presence doesn't match the size they claim, which is another red flag. I have an interview scheduled for Thursday, and while I plan to ask some tough questions, I'm unsure whether I should proceed with caution or walk away entirely.
