  1. 1

I recently faced a tough decision that has left me feeling lost. At 23, I hold a comparative literature degree from Italy and have always dreamed of working in the cultural and film industry. In May, I applied to a highly competitive set design course in Rome, not expecting to get in since they typically favor candidates with architecture or set design backgrounds. To my surprise, I was selected based on the portfolio I submitted, which I had put a lot of effort into. This was exciting news, but just three days before the admission results, I received a job offer for a three-month role preparing for a cultural festival. I was thrilled about the tasks involved and felt I performed well during the interview process, so I accepted the offer, not knowing the admission results were coming soon. However, just 20 minutes after saying yes to the job, I learned I got into the set design course and had to turn down the job offer, disappointing the HR team. My decision was influenced by the long commute of 3.5 hours a day and my ongoing applications for university and master's programs, which require flexibility. Now, just three days later, I'm questioning whether I made the right choice. I feel like I might have ruined my chances in the film industry, which is already so unstable. For the first time, I’m reconsidering my aspirations and feeling overwhelmed by nausea over the decision I made. I can't shake the feeling that I've set myself up for failure, and instead of celebrating my success, I'm stuck in a slump, unsure of what I truly want. How do I move past this feeling?
