I just got laid off from my job at Citi after 10 years. I knew it was coming, but hearing it while I was on vacation hit hard. I was on a plane, sitting in an aisle seat, trying to hold it together while my 7-year-old watched YouTube and my husband worked on expense reports by the window. I felt like I was silently falling apart. I had just climbed a mountain and felt so connected to the world, and now I was crying on an airplane, feeling like everything was pointless. It’s hard not to feel worthless right now, especially when I have to pretend for my child that everything has meaning when it feels like it doesn't. I’m in this swamp of an existential crisis, trying to figure out who I am without my job. It’s overwhelming, and my mind feels upside down. I’m not ready for this, and I’m struggling to process everything.
