I'm currently in a bit of a dilemma regarding my job transition. I’m expecting a job offer on Monday for a new position and I need to decide when to give my notice at my current job. My new employer wants me to start on September 14 because my new boss is pregnant and may go on maternity leave soon after. I have two options: 1. If I give my notice on August 24, my last day would be September 4. This would give me a full week off between jobs, which sounds amazing since I’m feeling pretty burned out. However, I’ve already planned a trip to a lake house with friends next week and would likely have to work full days on Monday and Tuesday to help with the transition, meaning I’d only have 8 actual working days during my notice period. 2. If I wait until August 31 to give notice, my last day would be September 11. This way, I could enjoy my time at the lake house without the stress of resignation hanging over me and provide my current employer with 10 full transition days. The downside is that I would go straight from my old job on Friday to my new job on Monday, which doesn't leave any downtime. I’ve been with my current company for 5 years and have a lot of systems to hand off, so I want to leave responsibly. But the thought of having a week off without any work sounds so appealing. I’m really torn about what to do.
