I recently found myself in a challenging situation at a Cambridge affiliated school where I was hired as a background musician for a 10-day contract. After impressing them, they asked me to stay on, which I did because I needed the paycheck to save for my future studies in music composition. However, after two months, I realized that the tasks assigned to me were far beyond my skillset. I was expected to create year-long plans for pre-primary age groups and give regular demos, which was overwhelming given my lack of experience in early childhood education. My colleagues are incredibly supportive, but I feel out of my depth and worry that I might be let go due to my struggles. I’ve been considering resigning to focus on my music practice instead and borrowing money from my parents to support myself. I already have a portion saved up and aim to have more by next year.
