I recently went for a job interview at a local fast food restaurant, and honestly, it felt like a complete farce. I never asked to be in this position where I have to fill out resumes and send them to every place I can think of, only to get ghosted or rejected. During the interview, it was clear that the interviewer was just going through the motions. I had to pretend to be excited about the job, even though I just wanted to be honest about my situation. When they asked me to tell them about myself, I felt like I was just reciting lines from a script. I have seven years of experience, but in that moment, it felt meaningless. I told them I was available anytime, and they just nodded, not really engaging with me at all. It was frustrating to realize that the entire system feels so artificial. I'm just trying to survive in this economic landscape, and yet it seems like I have to play this role just to get a job. I left the interview feeling disheartened, questioning why we built a system that requires so much pretense just to earn a living.
