Today, I faced a tough decision about my job at the local costume shop where I've been working since May. The owner is notoriously rude, not just to me but also to customers, and it's been really embarrassing. Recently, a customer even left a review that clearly pointed out her meanness towards me. I've overheard her talking negatively about me to other staff, which has made the work environment even more unbearable. I had tried to give my two weeks' notice a couple of weeks ago, but she convinced me to stay through the busy Halloween season. However, with Halloween coming up, I have plans with friends on October 30 and Halloween itself, but I’ll miss half of each event because of my shifts. I finally feel like I’m coming out of a five-year depressive state and want to enjoy my first Halloween as an adult. I can afford to quit now and look for another minimum wage job, but I'm torn. I don't want to leave my coworkers in a bind, especially since it’s projected to be busy on Halloween. On one hand, I feel guilty about abandoning them, but on the other hand, I leave work feeling defeated every day. The owner has been slightly nicer since I tried to resign, but I know it won't last. I know she will talk badly about me if I quit, but honestly, her reference wouldn’t matter since everyone knows how she treats her employees. I’m really struggling to decide whether to quit outright or stick it out for a few more days. I just want to make the most of this Halloween.
