I'm set to graduate this November with a Bachelor of Commerce, specializing in Finance & Economics, and a Minor in Global Leadership from the University of Toronto. I'm actively seeking job opportunities in the Finance sector, particularly with Big 4 firms. My background includes one internship with the CRA, another as an event planner/logistics coordinator, and a role as a Financial Manager for a political campaign. Currently, I have a cumulative GPA of 3.42 over my four years, with a stronger 3.76 in my last two years. Unfortunately, my first two years were impacted by personal challenges and poor planning, which has me concerned about how my GPA will be viewed by potential employers. I'm curious if firms tend to focus more on the GPA from the latter years of study or if they consider the overall average from all four years. Given that many positions in investment banking and some Big 4 roles require a GPA of 3.5-3.6, I'm worried that my cumulative GPA might hinder my chances, especially with the increasing use of tech and AI in the hiring process. If anyone has insights into how hiring managers evaluate GPA and any strategies I could use to improve my application, I would greatly appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance!

I recently received a conditional job offer from a company that requires a security check due to the sensitive nature of the data I'll be handling. I submitted the necessary documents a few days ago, but I received an email this morning stating that I'm missing information regarding a job I held six years ago. They need details from the past seven years of employment, including supervisor contact information. The issue is that the company I worked for back then no longer exists, and I haven't kept in touch with anyone from that job, including my supervisor. I asked if providing contracts and payslips would suffice as proof, but they insisted on full employer verification to proceed with the security check. I'm feeling anxious about this situation since they mentioned that failure to get my security check approved would result in revoking my job offer. I've never encountered such a deep security check before, and it seems a bit excessive to me. I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has faced a similar situation and what advice you might have. Do you think they would really revoke my offer over this?
