Last week, I was pulled into a meeting at my company where I learned that my remote position, which I have held for three years, is being moved back to the main campus. I was informed that I have two options: either relocate across the country and break my lease, or resign by the end of December. I was assured that my performance was not a factor in this decision. I've reached out to HR twice for clarification but have received no response. After researching, I found out that my state has a minimum salary requirement that will take effect on January 1st, which means my job would need to give me a $10,000 raise, along with raises for everyone else in my office. I’m not willing to break my lease and move, so I plan to start job searching immediately. I’m concerned that if I don’t find a new job, I’ll be forced to resign, which would jeopardize my ability to receive severance and apply for unemployment. Right now, I’m documenting everything to create a paper trail. If anyone has advice on how to navigate this situation, I would greatly appreciate it.
