I was laid off from my research analyst position at a financial firm yesterday, which caught me completely off guard. The call came from the Head of HR, who initially claimed that I "wasn't doing my work." Thankfully, I had kept meticulous records of all my projects, reports, and trade calls. When I presented this evidence, the HR rep seemed stunned and abruptly ended the call. However, about 30 minutes later, he called back with a different explanation, admitting that while my work was indeed satisfactory, the company was undergoing cost-cutting measures, and I was still being let go. Now, I’m on notice until the end of the month, and I’m feeling the pressure of a tough job market while also trying to prepare for the CFA Level 3 exam, which I’m currently behind on. I’m torn between two options: focusing entirely on the job search, which could take a while, or dedicating my time to studying for the CFA to improve my credentials. I would appreciate any advice on how to navigate this situation. What would you do if you were in my shoes?
