I was hired for a position at a well-known company in the UK just three weeks ago, at the end of August 2026. Unfortunately, I received the news in mid-September that I was being made redundant due to the closure of the store I was working at. I inquired about the possibility of transferring to another role within the company or if they had considered other positions at the location, but the responses were vague and unhelpful. They advised us not to discuss the situation among ourselves and to wait for the managers and supervisors to return from their holidays before seeking any clarification. As I navigate this unexpected redundancy, I'm looking for guidance. I’m reading through the company's website for advice on redundancy, but I can't find anything specific regarding protections for employees with less than a month of employment. The redundancy period they’ve offered me to work is actually longer than my employment duration, which is quite frustrating. I left my previous job for this opportunity, and now that position has been filled, leaving me feeling trapped. I have several questions on my mind: Is there any law that protects me in this situation? What laws protect the company? Could this redundancy be considered unfair, or even an ethics violation? I’m also curious if anyone else has faced a similar experience. This situation has left me feeling hopeless, especially since it took me six months to find this job. I was only working one day a week at my last job due to reduced hours, which prompted my move. I’m struggling with negative thoughts and am just trying to hold onto the hope that something will come up during my redundancy period. I’m also taking care of my mental health by seeing my GP.
