I recently found myself in a challenging situation at my company, which was acquired by a larger organization. As a middle management employee, I noticed that most of the senior leadership, aside from my direct supervisor, has either left or been terminated during this transition. My boss approached me and suggested that I apply for a job opening that has similar responsibilities to my current role, albeit with a different title. This position was posted on LinkedIn, not internally, which made me feel like I was being treated as an external candidate. I went ahead and applied through the official channels, but it felt strange to be in this position. My colleagues were given the same advice to seek out other similar roles within the company. Today, my boss informed me that I might need to go through an interview for this new role. This situation has left me feeling anxious. Is it normal for companies to require employees to reapply for positions during a restructuring? I can't shake the fear that they might use this application process as a pretext to let me go and eliminate my position entirely. I would appreciate any insights or experiences from others who have gone through similar situations.
